A couple of months ago I joined a football team down here. Not "football" as the rest of the world knows it. Real football! American football! The version of football that can't end in ties. Its been an interesting experience. Many of the other players watch NFL games each weekend and some know about as much as I do about the sport. However, few Brazilians grow up playing sports that involve an overhand passing motion so some of their attempts at quarterback have been a bit uninspiring. Still, its been great to play football again and running and tackling on the beach is a great workout. Besides, its also a good chance to practice Portuguese. Or maybe Portuglish. Everything is a mix of Portuguese and English football vocabulary that lacks a translation. Something like "Faz um stop-and-go e o quaterback vai jogar a bola" isn't uncommon.
Here's a video of the Ninjas playing in a tournament last year. Obviously, any NFL scouts who watch the video should contact me immediately. Also, you can see my city in the background.
